Dr. Hesheng Liu is the Director of the Laboratory for the Study of the Brain Basis of Individual Differences at Massachusetts General Hospital, the original and largest teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. He is also the SmartState Endowed Chair Professor of Neuroscience, Director of Computational Brain Imaging Core, Associate Director of Biomedical Imaging Center at the Medical University of South Carolina. Hesheng has trained over 30 Ph.D. and Post Doc graduates; many obtained faculty positions at top institutions such as Harvard University and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.

Dr. Hesheng’s research focuses on developing novel neuroimaging and computational tools to reveal brain functional architecture in individual subjects. He is internationally recognized as one of the most significant contributors who is pushing fMRI toward clinical applications. Moreover, his research breakthrough on individual brain functional atlas has been viewed as “the turning point for neuroimaging.”

Hesheng has 100+ publications on Nature Neuroscience, Neuron, Nature Communications, PNAS, and many other top neuroscience journals, with over 13,000 citations. He also serves as the Co-Editor-in-Chief for Brain Informatics, Associate Editor for Frontiers in Psychiatry, and sits on many academic journals' editorial board.
